Reappointments to New Zealand Racing Board


Monday, 1 August 2011, 3:58 pm Press Release: New Zealand Government Hon Craig FossMinister for Racing1 August2011Reappointments to New Zealand RacingBoardRacing Minister Craig Foss todayannounced the reappointment of Warren Bell, Dr Alan Jacksonand Thayne Green to the New Zealand Racing Board’s (NZRB)governing body.“It is vital that the NZRB displaysleadership to work to improve the industry’s economicperformance and deliver on its potential. These three bringnecessary business and industry experience to theboardroom,” said Mr Foss. “The Board, together withthe three codes, have made good progress to address the longterm challenges facing the industry, and I have reappointedthe three incumbents to ensure continuity through thesechanges.“I have also recently set out my expectationsfor the Board, focussing on the objectives set out in theRacing Act 2003. I expect the Board, with discussion andinput from the racing code bodies, to make the necessarydecisions to achieve these objectives, particularly on thepromotion of the long-term viability of New Zealand racing. “While its recent decisions are encouraging, theindustry must strive to bring racing in New Zealand backonto a path to growth and mainstream consumer appeal. TheBoard must be at the forefront of this,” said MrFoss.Warren Bell was recommended for appointment as anindependent board member by the statutory panel followingconsultation with the industry, and was subsequentlyappointed. Thayne Green was reappointed as a board memberfollowing his nomination by the greyhound racing code. AlanJackson was reappointed as a board member following hisnomination by the thoroughbred racingcode.ENDS
